“The use of Flickr to generate storytelling”
Helpful sites:
- TodaysMeet
- Tweecher: using Twitter to benefit your teaching.
- CogDogBlog: story-telling via pictures
What are Flickr Tools?
5 Card Flickr
- Five random cards, pick them (you can use target language: 'bottom-left' etc.)
- Two nouns, two adjectives, two verbs
- Must use a card, a noun, adjective, and verb to write a quick story
- (Higher levels) Make each story continue from the others
- Helpful for: creativity, collaboration, language, conversation, questions
- Choose a theme
- Speak for a certain amount of time and a certain amount of slides.
- In groups or in front. You can also have a scribe
- Haiku? Doing Memes is another way to do short sentences.
- A way to introduce themselves. Three short lines or so.
- Print it out or share with Drive. Put on student portfolios.
Reflection:
Not too sure if 5 card Flickr would be helpful for second language learning (more directed towards high school students). Helpful for an engaging quick write session. Pecha Flickr looks great. That would be a fantastic activity once the students have a good understanding of the language (warning: can have inappropriate pictures). Big Huge Labs would be great and relevant for middle school students.
