Åskollen School (in Drammen, Norway)

I have the opportunity to visit a primary/intermediate equivalent here in Norway. I will be visiting a 7. trinn class which will be the same age level as a New Zealand Year 8 class.

My brother-in-law, Lars Christian Gjøsaæther, is the principal here. He is one of the youngest principals in the region, and he is very dear to me.

Some details about the school:
  • 500 students
  • 55 staff
  • Year 2-8 (full primary and students start school when they are 6 years old in Norway)
  • Each student has been provided their own iPad by the school

I am excited that I will be joining a class that will have students the same age as in my class at Berkley, as hopefully we can build some connections with them. It is a shame that I am not teaching Norwegian this year, as that would be a great opportunity for them to practise the language. The students here should be able to speak a good amount of English which would still make communication possible between the students.
