Understanding

Social media is helpful, but can be dangerous. Also, need to touch, smell and see. Sensory.
We need a range of teaching strategies.

Using Attitudes

How International is your school?

What questions are you not sure of?
Mother tongue: there must some sort of language in the classroom.
Matt: use the parents as a resource. E.g. getting the CI in their mother tongue.
Parents may be hesitant to this (sent to school to learn English).

Meaningful service: action is hard to identify. May not be seen.
They must legitimately see why the action
What about in the world of a 10-year-old? What is important? Don't make it too big.

When doing the lessons, "what was the shift in thinking?"
When do we take action?

Learner Profiles

How are they used? Student voice. Link the attitude to the profile. Blend them (how does that work with reflection?)

Who identifies the profile?

Using the same tool. Why are you doing that and what is it for?

Differentiated reflections.

Keep changing. A facilitator of learning.

International Mindedness

Start local! Avoid child slavery etc. 10-year-olds don't need to be exploring these.
There are many local issues we could help with.
We are more similar than we are different

Curriculum

Everything is curriculum. The whole child. Not just content. Far more complex than delivering. How you model, how you speak to one another, how they get from here to there. If it was

Inquiry for understanding

Much deeper than getting information. Where is the scope for them.

Moving onwards (something worth enduring).

5 aspects of PYP: How do you use them?

Lots of projects are what interest the teacher. This shouldn't be

Knowledge:

When deciding, it should be engaging, relevant, challenging, significant in the world of a 10 year old.

Sometimes we may make the connection at the end of the unit.

Must have some stand alone teaching time apart from Unit (p14)

What was your whale moment?

Not teaching what you would 'like' to teach. But is an academic decision.
What is really worth knowing? Decide as a school.
